00:01:49.524 --> 00:01:52.512
So my goal is to make this valuable as possible.
00:01:52.512 --> 00:02:04.231
So today's podcast episode is basically off the cuffs, meaning that this podcast we're going to talk about appreciating your position while you plot your promotion.
00:02:04.231 --> 00:02:08.264
Talk about appreciating your position while you plot your promotion.
00:02:08.264 --> 00:02:12.638
So you say I had an episode a while back called this title Appreciate your Position, plot your Promotion.
00:02:12.638 --> 00:02:17.629
I will actually put that podcast number in the notes and you can go and check it out.
00:02:18.752 --> 00:02:29.600
And this podcast is a reminder because for me, when I think about it, appreciating your position and plot your promotion.
00:02:29.600 --> 00:02:31.104
So what does that mean?
00:02:31.104 --> 00:02:42.890
Well, first of all, let's say you have a nine to five job and today's economy in the US it has been difficult to really find something.
00:02:42.890 --> 00:02:50.747
So if you lose your job right now, you can go months, even a year, and not have anything else going for yourself.
00:02:50.747 --> 00:02:57.730
So that's why I know some jobs can be very detrimental to your health and I understand that.
00:02:57.730 --> 00:03:03.887
I would not tell you to stick to a job because just to stick to a job.
00:03:03.887 --> 00:03:18.312
But if you have a job right now, please appreciate it, because getting out to the market it's going to be tough and I don't know where you are, but I know here in the US it's been very difficult to be able to find something.
00:03:18.312 --> 00:03:28.431
So that's why I'm saying appreciate your position while you plot your promotion, appreciate your position while you plot your promotion.
00:03:28.431 --> 00:03:39.612
Now, plot your promotion should be even though you have this job, have something else that you can do outside of this job in case, if they come to you and they say such and such, unfortunately we're going to have to let you go.
00:03:39.612 --> 00:04:03.213
You are not struggling and stressing to find something else Because at the end of the day, these nine to five jobs, we can sit here and say, well, they don't care about us, the job doesn't really care about what we do or not necessarily what we do, but they don't really care about us, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
00:04:03.253 --> 00:04:06.278
They don't really care about us, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
00:04:06.278 --> 00:04:26.630
But if you were to lose, if you have thousands of people let's say you work for a big company and you have thousands of people that's counting on you to make sure let's say you're a CEO and they're counting on you and your decision making to ensure they have money in exchange for money to be able to take care of their family.
00:04:26.630 --> 00:04:28.541
They count on you.
00:04:28.541 --> 00:04:37.307
So, honestly, whether you lose that person let's say it's a person that leaves the company or pass away, whatever the show must still continue.
00:04:37.307 --> 00:04:43.925
One thing that happens in life is that time doesn't stop for no one.
00:04:43.925 --> 00:04:52.528
So if you I know again, I understand the sentiment these jobs don't care about you, and et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
00:04:52.528 --> 00:05:03.944
But at the end of the day they have a business to run and the business can't stop because you decide to leave the company or, let's say, you pass away.
00:05:03.944 --> 00:05:08.603
Something happens to you, and I know, if you pass away you don't, you won't know.
00:05:08.603 --> 00:05:20.701
But I'm just saying for family wise, and I got the first experience of this I wouldn't I would not say first, but I would say in the corporate structure.
00:05:21.523 --> 00:05:34.821
I remember someone passed away and literally my manager at the time told me hey, amir, we got to find somebody to replace them, even though this was a person I knew for a while.
00:05:34.821 --> 00:05:54.911
And at least, man, let's take a few weeks to at least at least let's say to not just like rush and go find somebody else, but at least to I guess I don't know what word I'm really looking for but to be like, you know, we don't have to rush to go find somebody.
00:05:54.911 --> 00:05:56.384
At the end of the day it was business.
00:05:56.384 --> 00:06:05.108
And I remember, for the current employee I worked for, I remember this gentleman I was working with on a project.
00:06:05.108 --> 00:06:07.250
He ended up passing away.
00:06:07.250 --> 00:06:21.283
Our manager called us in for an emergency meeting and then she announced that our good friend yada yada, passed away and hey, do you guys have any questions?
00:06:21.283 --> 00:06:22.947
None of us did, because we were not really that close with him.
00:06:22.947 --> 00:06:26.194
Literally a week and a half later his position got filled.
00:06:27.519 --> 00:06:28.701
It always reminds me.
00:06:28.701 --> 00:06:32.129
You know, I appreciate where I'm at right now.
00:06:32.129 --> 00:06:35.213
But I am thinking outside of this.
00:06:35.213 --> 00:06:42.351
I am plotting my promotion and it could be that you work in your nine to five job and you work for a corporate job.
00:06:42.351 --> 00:06:47.283
Nine to five job and you work for a corporate job.
00:06:47.283 --> 00:07:06.653
And if you work for a big company and there's opportunities to move around to different aspects of the company, don't sit around and just stay in one position and then all suddenly you're getting mad, you don't like the job no more, you're getting stressed out because you've been in the same position and there's no growth.
00:07:06.653 --> 00:07:13.449
But if there's several opportunities within the company for you to do something, take that chance.
00:07:13.449 --> 00:07:19.620
Always appreciate where you're at, but plot your promotion.
00:07:19.620 --> 00:07:36.358
It could be that you have a side hustle outside of the company you're in right now and you want to be able to make some money outside Because, again, if you live in the US, price of eggs are really up there these days.
00:07:37.279 --> 00:07:39.062
I remember growing up, price of eggs.
00:07:39.062 --> 00:07:45.778
A whole carton dozen you can get for like 99 cents, $1, $2.
00:07:45.778 --> 00:07:49.845
Now a dozen of eggs is like $12, $13.
00:07:49.845 --> 00:07:52.733
The price has went up in everything.
00:07:52.733 --> 00:08:05.250
And one thing I'll say is I remember during COVID, when those checks were being sent out, I told my wife I said watch, hon, the government never does anything.
00:08:05.250 --> 00:08:08.420
I don't want to get too political, but I'm just stating this out.
00:08:08.420 --> 00:08:11.093
The government never does anything.
00:08:11.093 --> 00:08:14.701
Where they don't, they don't.
00:08:14.701 --> 00:08:16.264
You don't know about it later.
00:08:16.264 --> 00:08:21.682
You don't see the ramifications of what they did until you see it later.
00:08:21.682 --> 00:08:23.072
And guess what?
00:08:23.072 --> 00:08:25.439
As soon as we got, we got a COVID, what happened?
00:08:25.439 --> 00:08:29.161
It doesn't matter whether it's Democrats or Republicans in office.
00:08:29.161 --> 00:08:30.653
What do you see happen?
00:08:30.653 --> 00:08:33.061
The price of everything skyrocketed.
00:08:34.230 --> 00:08:38.413
So you have to always understand those are things you can't control.
00:08:38.413 --> 00:08:42.017
But what you can control is your income.
00:08:42.017 --> 00:08:47.361
You can work a job and I was listening to my wife this morning.
00:08:47.361 --> 00:08:53.407
My wife was telling me she had her review and she got a three and a quarter percent raise.
00:08:53.407 --> 00:08:57.272
I recently got a three percent raise.
00:08:57.272 --> 00:09:03.443
But if you have your own thing outside of this job, guess what you can control.
00:09:03.443 --> 00:09:08.922
You can control how much money you make, how much money you don't make.
00:09:08.922 --> 00:09:22.610
And that's why it's imperative I said this Appreciate your position but plot your promotion, because a job they're not going to plot your promotion for you.
00:09:22.610 --> 00:09:25.255
You have to be the one to do it.
00:09:26.518 --> 00:09:35.789
And sometimes some people they take the high road, and the high road could be what they call corporate butt kissers, and that's what we call it.
00:09:35.789 --> 00:09:38.655
But to them it could be hey, I'm trying to move ahead.
00:09:38.655 --> 00:09:42.264
Hey, no harm, no foul, do what you got to do.
00:09:42.264 --> 00:09:50.423
But you always understand if they, when they want a time to get rid of you, they'll figure a way to get rid of you.
00:09:50.423 --> 00:09:56.023
And it don't matter if you were Mr Nice Guy and you've been in the company 20 years.
00:09:56.023 --> 00:10:00.320
When it's time for them to come and say hey, we're going to hand you this.
00:10:00.320 --> 00:10:02.777
Unfortunately, we're going to need to lay you off.
00:10:02.777 --> 00:10:04.716
You got to bite the dust and eat it.
00:10:04.716 --> 00:10:20.592
And therefore, that's why it's always good to have something outside of what you're doing, because at the end of the day, we can sit here and say these companies don't care about us Rightfully so.
00:10:20.592 --> 00:10:29.743
But they got a business to run and they got a business with thousands of employees who depends on their job.
00:10:31.010 --> 00:10:34.600
And do you want to be the one to depend on your job?
00:10:34.600 --> 00:10:36.692
You don't want to be that one.
00:10:36.692 --> 00:10:40.642
I can never fault a company for doing these things.
00:10:40.642 --> 00:10:51.972
I used to get mad when that would happen, but when I ran a business myself I was a manager myself I started to understand why it was done.
00:10:51.972 --> 00:10:55.197
Time waits for no one.
00:10:55.197 --> 00:10:57.240
You got to keep the ship going.
00:10:57.240 --> 00:11:01.865
You got to keep going, but plot your promotion.
00:11:03.091 --> 00:11:04.273
What do you enjoy doing?
00:11:04.273 --> 00:11:06.697
What do you like to do?
00:11:06.697 --> 00:11:14.484
That, if someone did not pay you, you would do this for the rest of your life.
00:11:14.484 --> 00:11:15.087
What is it?
00:11:15.087 --> 00:11:16.562
Ask yourself these questions.
00:11:16.562 --> 00:11:18.389
What is it?
00:11:18.389 --> 00:11:25.674
Ask yourself these questions Because, at the end of the day, a job is not going to have those answers for you.
00:11:25.674 --> 00:11:30.471
So that's why it's important for you to have something else outside.
00:11:30.490 --> 00:11:33.298
If you don't want to be an entrepreneur, that's fine.
00:11:33.298 --> 00:11:48.931
But if you work in a nine to five job maybe, instead of you just staying in one position, if there's plenty of other ways you can move up in the company, figure it out, but do it on the merit of because you're a hard worker.
00:11:48.931 --> 00:12:01.986
Don't do it on the merit of oh, because I'm buddy-buddy with senior vice president John Kurtel, even though we know it's not what you know, it's who you know these days that gets you further in life.
00:12:01.986 --> 00:12:08.735
If that's not what you want to do, that's fine, because not everybody can be an entrepreneur, not everybody can have a side hustle.
00:12:08.735 --> 00:12:13.573
I mean, everybody can, but some people just it's by choice whether they do it or not.
00:12:13.573 --> 00:12:26.153
But I know, with today's economy it's tough, it is very tough, and therefore you got to be able to have other things outside of what you do to be able to live.
00:12:26.153 --> 00:12:36.106
Because when you get paid now you can get paid $100K, you can get paid paid 50K, and everybody's struggling, everybody's paying the same price.
00:12:36.106 --> 00:12:40.418
If you walk in the store, you're paying the same price for eggs that I am too.
00:12:40.418 --> 00:12:43.668
And now you have to think outside the box.
00:12:44.691 --> 00:12:55.475
My wife recently, today actually, me and her went to a fruit market and might I tell you this fruit market?
00:12:55.475 --> 00:13:01.511
We live in Dallas Texas and this place is Dallas Texas is about.
00:13:01.511 --> 00:13:08.635
We live in the suburbs of Dallas Texas, but you have to go to Dallas Texas for this fruit market.
00:13:08.635 --> 00:13:19.153
It was a yeah, basically a fruit market and it was about 35 minutes from where we live and we got baskets of fruit.
00:13:19.153 --> 00:13:34.860
I tell you Baskets of fruit that if we were to go to a store, a grocery store, we would have probably paid maybe $50 to $80, even close to $100 more.
00:13:34.860 --> 00:13:45.833
And we walked out with almost six baskets of fruits and stuff because my wife is into juicing and we don't do any.
00:13:47.144 --> 00:13:53.011
Me and my wife, we're becoming very health conscious and it's been like that for years and me and my wife always talk about that.
00:13:53.011 --> 00:13:54.932
She's like hon, you are so there.
00:13:54.932 --> 00:13:59.527
She was telling me this morning hon, you are so picky when it comes to food.
00:13:59.527 --> 00:14:04.798
And I told her the older I've gotten, I've had to watch what I eat.
00:14:04.798 --> 00:14:09.032
Now we don't really do a lot of fast food restaurants.
00:14:09.032 --> 00:14:13.352
I haven't had McDonald's or Burger King or any of that stuff.
00:14:13.352 --> 00:14:17.577
Mcdonald's has probably been five years, six years, I'm going on.
00:14:17.577 --> 00:14:20.727
Burger King has probably been two, three years now.
00:14:20.727 --> 00:14:23.673
I stopped eating cold cuts.
00:14:23.673 --> 00:14:24.937
It's been about four years.
00:14:24.937 --> 00:14:26.206
I haven't had a hot dog.
00:14:26.206 --> 00:14:29.494
In about five years now I haven't had a hot dog.
00:14:29.494 --> 00:14:37.272
A lot of stuff I just cut out because it's a lot of processed stuff, a lot of stuff that's cancerous, not good for your body.
00:14:37.272 --> 00:14:56.547
So going to this fruit market today made me really realize that you really have to start thinking outside the box, because everything is so expensive and even if you make a hundred K it's still not enough to live, so you got to hustle and make more money.
00:14:57.188 --> 00:15:08.668
If you guys have been following my podcast the last two or three episodes, what I've been talking about land, buying land and you can buy land and you can use land for anything.
00:15:08.668 --> 00:15:10.931
You can use it.
00:15:10.931 --> 00:15:16.399
You can use farmland if you want to have a farm agriculture.
00:15:16.399 --> 00:15:19.511
I mean, if you're into the cannabis, you can get yourself.
00:15:19.511 --> 00:15:24.648
Buy a farm, buy a land, grow your own cannabis, depending on the state.
00:15:24.648 --> 00:15:29.337
Don't 100% quote me on that, because go get the laws and understand.
00:15:29.337 --> 00:15:35.187
Not go get the laws, but go understand the laws and stuff of the state you live in.
00:15:36.269 --> 00:15:50.769
Agriculture if you can want to grow your own crops Residential, if you want to build your own home cabin, rural land if you want to buy rural land, there's various things you can do here with your land Minerals.
00:15:50.769 --> 00:15:54.378
So if there's mineral, like oil, gas, you can have that.
00:15:54.378 --> 00:15:55.225
You can own land.
00:15:55.225 --> 00:15:59.413
There's things you can do and it starts there.
00:16:00.716 --> 00:16:07.511
A goal of mine eventually is to end life for us me and my families to buy.
00:16:07.511 --> 00:16:17.566
I want to own at least I want to own 100 acres of land to own at least.
00:16:17.566 --> 00:16:18.888
I want to own 100 acres of land.
00:16:18.888 --> 00:16:21.292
I put it out there to the universe I want to own 100 acres of land.
00:16:21.292 --> 00:16:28.589
But I want to own land to be able to do my own agriculture, do my own farming, do everything natural.
00:16:28.589 --> 00:16:32.155
Because we just don't know what's being put in our.
00:16:32.155 --> 00:16:51.453
When you go to a grocery store now you have to account for another 15 to 20 minutes you have to account for because you got to sit there and read every single thing to ensure that what is your you're buying, you know what you're putting in your body, because we just don't know.
00:16:51.453 --> 00:17:07.487
So not only is it getting expensive because price of everything has gone up, income hasn't gone up, but it doesn't necessarily mean you just okay, you know what.
00:17:07.487 --> 00:17:14.012
I just need to go do something else or let me quit my job, but appreciate where you're at for now.
00:17:14.012 --> 00:17:19.356
Please appreciate your position while you plot your promotion.
00:17:19.356 --> 00:17:24.455
Appreciate your position while you plot your promotion.
00:17:25.145 --> 00:17:26.853
So I wanted to leave you guys with this today.
00:17:26.853 --> 00:17:35.276
It's a very short episode than normal, but I just felt like this is something we all need as a reminder.
00:17:35.276 --> 00:17:39.692
Is that what you're doing is not forever, it's just for now.
00:17:39.692 --> 00:17:44.566
You can decide if it's forever, but that's your choice.
00:17:44.566 --> 00:17:50.588
If it's not, find something you're passionate about and do it on the side.
00:17:50.588 --> 00:18:02.154
Something you're passionate about and do it on the side, grow your thing on the side, grow whatever you're doing on the side and if it comes to a point that company says such and such, we got to let you go.
00:18:02.154 --> 00:18:06.497
You don't feel anything because you've worked.
00:18:06.497 --> 00:18:09.919
You spent your time plotting your promotion.
00:18:09.919 --> 00:18:13.260
I just wanted to leave you guys with that.
00:18:13.260 --> 00:18:16.363
I appreciate you listening to this podcast.
00:18:16.363 --> 00:18:53.394
Thank you, much love.
00:18:53.394 --> 00:18:53.599
Thank you.
